The standard way to calculate speed is Distance ÷ Time. Based on your drive:

Did you notice your speed was changing during the drive? That average speed we just calculated only tells us the general pace. It doesn't tell us how fast you were going at exactly 2.5 seconds.

To find the speed at one exact point, mathematicians look at a tiny window of time and make it smaller and smaller until it's almost zero.
